Trail Report for Week of October 17th, 2022

Summary of trail conditions, trail maintenance, and other information about the Bartram Trail.

Trail reports are here to provide hikers, volunteers, and supporters with up to date information pertaining to Bartram Trail conditions. We receive from hikers, members, and from our own volunteer work days.

If you are out on the trail and see something that needs to be addressed, like a tree down across the trail, muddy section, or potential hazards, please let us know by submitting a trail observation report. We review and prioritize all reports we receive and assign trail work days to address them.

New Trail Observations for week of October 17th through 22nd:

Date: 10/17/2022
Source: Staff, Southeast Conservation Corps
Section: Cheoah Bald (NC)
Observations: We had a great visit with the PLC crew out at the Cheoah Bald section to see the great work completed on this hitch. The crew widened and created new tread along long sections of the trail from Cheoah Bald down to Bartram’s Falls. Some rock and wood stairs/steps were built in a few trouble areas. The crew plans to continue their work on this section from 10/24 through the 31st before their final hitches in Georgia.

Date: 10/21/2022
Source: Volunteers
Section: Rabun Bald (GA)
Observations: As part of assistance to prepare for the Sky to Summit trail race, scheduled for 11/5, members and volunteers were out on the Bartram Trail between Wilson Gap and Rabun Bald. We had a great turnout of 6 and covered roughly 4 of the 5 miles up from Wilson Gap. The trail was in decent condition, but needed brush cutting and some branches lopped. There were a few areas where water drainage nicks, dips, and berms were cleared or cleaned up. We had 2 folks from the Chattahoochee Forest Service join us as well.

Date: 10/20/2022
Source: Volunteer
Section: Rabun Bald (GA)
Observations: One of our trail maintenance leaders scouted and mowed over a mile of trail up from Wilson Gap towards Rabun Bald. This work was very helpful for the crew heading out there on the 21st and to prepare for the Sky to Summit event.
