Outing Description:
Ivy Maintenance Pull – we’ll be going after the English Ivy that is trying to return after our previous pulls. Since January of 2021, Georgia ForestWatch, in partnership with the US Forest Service and Blue Ridge Bartram Trail Conservancy, has adopted Warwoman Dell Recreation Area to help control the spread of Non-Native Invasive Species (NNIS) further into the national forest. Warwoman Dell is a special place to many ForestWatch members and has historical and cultural significance. Due to the ease of access, the potential habitat for rare plants, and the continual suppression of native habitat caused by English Ivy, ForestWatch is continuing manual maintenance at this site without the use of herbicides. A huge thank you to Melanie Vickers for leading the effort and to all who have come out to help!

Cancellation: If Outing is cancelled due to weather or unforeseen circumstances, we will notify you by 6:00 pm on the evening before.

February 16th Third Friday Workday

Please consider joining us for our February 16th, Third Friday Workday from 9am to 3pm. We’ll meet at Warwoman Dell and are planning to work between Wilson Gap and Courthouse Gap. We’ll figure out shuttling and get everyone to the trailhead and back to Warwoman Dell by 3pm.

Please bring work gloves, good boots, plenty of water, lunch, any meds you might need and esprit de corps.

February 10th Second Saturday Workday

Join us this Saturday, February 10th, for our second Saturday trail workday!

We’ll meet at Osage Overlook at 9:00am. We will work from Osage to Tessentee. If we have a third sawyer crew we will also have a crew work NOBO from Tessentee.

If anyone has a GPS unit and is interested in in helping build a database of trail maintenance issues/resolutions, please bring your GPS.

Note that the weather is forecasted a little iffy. If the workday is canceled or delayed we will send out notice to those registered by 6:00am Saturday.

January 30th Trailhead Tuesday

We’ll plan to meet at Warwoman Dell at 1pm before heading out to clean up at Bartram Trail trailheads on the Georgia side.

This is a program for those looking to get involved with limited time. We will meet in the early afternoon to divide and conquer some minor clean up and trail head maintenance. We’re looking for folks to visit a set of selected trail heads to re-stock Bartram Trail information cards, complete a trail head condition report, pick up any trash in the area, and chat with hikers as they start their day hike.

We’ll supply everything you need for the day. Although we suggest you bring your own gloves, a hat, sunscreen, and a positive attitude.

We’ll meet at 1pm in the parking area at Warwoman Dell. We’ll break up into groups and visit the trailheads nearby. We’ll regroup between 3-4 and head to Outdoor 76 in Clayton for a cold beverage on us.
