October 25th Walking with Bartram

At the end of this month (if the National Forest is open), we will be hiking from Wallace Branch and connecting to the Trimont Trail that originates at the old prison on Co-op Road. From there we will take the sidewalk down Harrison Ave back to the Lazy Hiker. This section of the Trimont trail is the proposed reroute to the Bartram Trail that will hopefully take place in the next few years.

This section is not currently on any of our Bartram maps, but it is about a 5 or 6 mile hike, and goes through some beautiful forest and by some ancient trail systems on Trimont ridge.

Please RSVP if you are interested. We’ll keep you updated on plans and forest closures as that time approaches.

October 11th Walking with Bartram (reschedule)

We will be making up our hurricaned out hike from last month on the second Friday of October.

We’re be going to be hiking the new(ish) reroute that takes us along the greenway and through the town of Franklin. We’ll meet at the First United Methodist Church at 1pm to hike the 7 miles along the river to end up at the Lazy Hiker for drinks at the end of the day!

This route begins at the County Fairgrounds and Rec Park, continues down Allman Drive, through the Cartoogechaye Creek Meadow, onto the Little Tennessee Greenway to Big Bear, then down (or up) Main street.

This should be a relatively easy and accessible hike.

September 27th Walking with Bartram

September 24th Trailhead Tuesday

We’ll plan to meet at First United Methodist Church in Franklin at 1pm before heading out to clean up at Bartram Trail trailheads.

This is a program for those looking to get involved with limited time. We will meet in the early afternoon to divide and conquer some minor clean up and trail head maintenance. We’re looking for folks to visit a set of selected trail heads to re-stock Bartram Trail information cards, complete a trail head condition report, pick up any trash in the area, and chat with hikers as they start their day hike.

We’ll supply everything you need for the day. Although we suggest you bring your own gloves, a hat, sunscreen, and a positive attitude.

We’ll meet at 1pm in the parking area at church across from Lazy Hiker Brewing. We’ll regroup between 3-4 and head across the street for a cold beverage on us.
