Walking with Bartram: Jones Gap to Hickory Knoll Road

Join us this month as we traverse the Fishhawk range to hike from Jones Gap to Hickory Knoll Road on the Bartram Trail. This 9.6 mile hike will lead us through stunning terrain and views of Whiterock Mountain, and will go through botanically unique areas of “montane cedar glades”.

We’ll be meeting at 9am at the Hickory Knoll Road Trailhead and shuttling from there to Jones Gap.

Come prepared to be outside in the heat of the summer all day, and ready to observe and appreciate the surrounding nature.

Walking with Bartram: Jones Gap to Hickory Knoll Road

This month we will be traversing the Fishhawk range from Jones Gap to Hickory Knoll Road. This 9.6 mile section features incredible views of the upper Little Tennessee River Valley and of Whiterock Mountain. It is also a botanically unique area with outcrops of “montane cedar glades”.

We hope you’ll join us and experience this unique section of the trail. Come ready to observe, hike, and immerse in nature for the whole day.

We’ll be meeting at Hickory Knoll Trailhead at 9am and shuttling up to Jones Gap.

This hike is limited to 14 people to minimize impact and keep logistics manageable.

July 30th Trailhead Tuesday

We’ll plan to meet at First United Methodist Church in Franklin at 1pm before heading out to clean up at Bartram Trail trailheads.

This is a program for those looking to get involved with limited time. We will meet in the early afternoon to divide and conquer some minor clean up and trail head maintenance. We’re looking for folks to visit a set of selected trail heads to re-stock Bartram Trail information cards, complete a trail head condition report, pick up any trash in the area, and chat with hikers as they start their day hike.

We’ll supply everything you need for the day. Although we suggest you bring your own gloves, a hat, sunscreen, and a positive attitude.

We’ll meet at 1pm in the parking area at church across from Lazy Hiker Brewing. We’ll regroup between 3-4 and head across the street for a cold beverage on us.

July 19th Third Friday Workday

Come join us and give back to the trail by volunteering with us on our Third Friday Workday!

We’ll be meeting at the Chatooga River Trailhead on Hwy 76 (near Bull Sluice) at 9am and work until 3pm.

Please bring work gloves, good boots, plenty of water, lunch, any meds you might need and esprit de corps.

Don’t be shy, we’ll provide everything you need to enjoy your day while making a huge impact for future enjoyment of the Bartram Trail. The hard work of our volunteers is what keeps the 110 miles of trails open and usable all year long.
