September 20th Third Friday Workday

This week we will be meeting at Warwoman Dell at 8:30am and likely won’t be back at the cars until 4pm. We will be helping the SECC trail crew near Wilson Gap. Email us directly if you would like to carpool.

Please bring work gloves, good boots, plenty of water, lunch, any meds you might need and esprit de corps.

Rattled

Join the Bartram Trail and the Orianne Society for an event at Black Rock Mountain State Park to learn about and celebrate the Timber Rattlesnake. We will be screening the Orianne Society film, Rattled, which documents the story of conserving Timber Rattlesnakes in the Appalachian mountains. We will also be spending time in the woods talking about snake habitat and behavior, and get to have a meet-and-greet with some live animals.

Timber rattlesnakes are an incredibly important part of the southern Appalachian ecosystem, and were notable creatures to the Cherokee and early European settlers alike. Bartram illustrated and expounded on rattlesnakes in great detail during his travels, and these animals still deserve respect and appreciation. If you want to learn more about the Timber rattlesnake- its history and the future of its conservation- come join us!

We’ll be meeting at the Mellinger Center in Black Rock Mountain State Park at 5pm, and expect to stay until about 7pm. RSVP below if you think you’ll be able to come. And spread the word!

*A $5 parkpass is required to enter the State Park, unless you have an annual GA parkpass*

August 27th Trailhead Tuesday

We’ll plan to meet at First United Methodist Church in Franklin at 1pm before heading out to clean up at Bartram Trail trailheads.

This is a program for those looking to get involved with limited time. We will meet in the early afternoon to divide and conquer some minor clean up and trail head maintenance. We’re looking for folks to visit a set of selected trail heads to re-stock Bartram Trail information cards, complete a trail head condition report, pick up any trash in the area, and chat with hikers as they start their day hike.

We’ll supply everything you need for the day. Although we suggest you bring your own gloves, a hat, sunscreen, and a positive attitude.

We’ll meet at 1pm in the parking area at church across from Lazy Hiker Brewing. We’ll regroup between 3-4 and head across the street for a cold beverage on us.
