Friday, March 25 Walking with Bartram

This month we’ll be hiking from Wayah Bald to the terminus of our January hike near Poplar Cove gap. It’s a mostly downhill hike of seven miles, though there’s always going to be some ups and downs in these mountains. We will meet at Harrison Gap on FS 713 at 9AM to set the shuttle to Wayah Bald. Bring lunch, water, clothing appropriate for the forecast, and an extra layer for elevation. Do not rely on google maps or a smart phone for directions! From Franklin, take 64 west to Patton Road, and turn right. There will be a sign for LBJ Job Corps. After a few hundred yards, turn left at Loafer’s Glory convenience store on to Wayah Road. Follow Wayah Road for 6 miles and turn right on FS 713. FS 713 starts out as paved but turns to gravel. Follow FS 713 for four miles to the gap and the crossing of the Bartram Trail.
