SUMMARY:Slow Hikers Club
DESCRIPTION:Want to experience the Bartram at your own pace? Join us for a shorter hike on the trail where we take our time\, explore life along the trail\, and ask the important (ecological\, philosophical) questions. \nThis month we will be hiking from the Osage Overlook parking lot along the Puc Puggy trail and visiting a campsite\, around 1.5 miles RT. Children are welcome – just make sure you RSVP for everyone! \nWhat to expect: Downhill on the first half of the hike with small steep/rocky sections. Nimble footing required for everyone’s safety! The campsite provides a lovely resting/exploratory base. The second half is mostly uphill on a moderate incline. \nWhat to bring: plenty of water\, snacks\, extra layers for warmth\, proper trail gear (hiking poles? extra sturdy shoes?) & enthusiasm! \nIf you are having trouble signing up online and want to join\, refresh your page and try again. If that does not work please email me (fiona@blueridgebartram.org). Our RSVPs have been finnicky – our apologies.

SUMMARY:Geology of Scaly Mountain with HCLT
DESCRIPTION:Learn about the geology of Scaly Mountain with HCLT’s own Stephanie Contreras! \nScaly Mountain is a geological wonder containing rockface that is the result of clashes over 300 million years old. Stephanie Contreras will be guiding us through understanding these rock faces and what exactly they are composed of. \nThe hike will be a moderate 3.5-mile Round Trip. Please come prepared with warm layers\, plenty of water\, lunch\, and a sense of wonder. \nCarpooling from Franklin is available – RSVP for more info. We would leave around 9am.

SUMMARY:Walking with Bartram: Wayah Bald to Lake Nantahala
DESCRIPTION:This month we’ll be hiking into one of the most remote areas of the Bartram Trail\, through the estimable Nantahala National Forest between Wayah Bald and Nantahala Lake. There is a chance that Bartram himself stood atop of Wayah Bald when he described the “most elevated peak” of the Jore mountains. Of course\, Lake Nantahala didn’t exist at the time\, but the “mountains piled upon mountains” that Bartram reverently expounded on are much the same. \nThis is a 7.4 mile hike that descends\, sometimes very steeply\, towards the lake. Be prepared for very cold weather and ice! We will meet at the Bartram Trail Parking area at Lake Nantahala at 9am and then shuttle to Wayah Bald from there. \nLooking forward to seeing y’all there!
