SUMMARY:Four Ways of Listening to a Forest with Sydney Kale
DESCRIPTION:Forests are places full of conversation. They are a model not only of being attentive to but also of being responsive to the other. To be in a body is to be in conversation. We are permeable. We have openings in our edges. Our senses are openings in our edges that allow us to be affected. When we look at our bodies and all of the bodies around us\, are we aware of the conversation: what are they saying\, what are the implications\, what questions and statements from the land are our responsive bodies a reflection of? \nWe will explore four ways of listening to a forest based on on the four elements: earth\, water\, wind\, and fire. There are many different species and systems within a forest that demonstrate what we can attune to\, how we can tune in\, and how we can participate in a forest’s conversations. We will spend a few hours walking\, talking\, and listening to what the forest wants to tell us. \n____________________________________ \nJoyce Kilmer Memorial Forest which is home to one of the oldest groves that we will have the privilege of getting to know deeply. Please bring plenty of water\, lunch\, any any medications you may need. It is highly recommended to read one of Kale’s books prior to the event. \nCheck out Syndey Kale’s website to see where you can purchase her books: https://www.sydneykale.com/writing-podcasts-presentations \nThis is a donation-based event with a minimum donation of $5 upon arrival. If you’d like to carpool from Cowee School\, meet in the parking lot. We will leave no later than 8:30a.m.
